K-TOWN CANINE CLUB (KCC)

Welcome to the Pack.

K-TOWN CANINE CLUB (KCC)

Welcome to the Pack.

Location: 1400 South Komensky, Chicago, Illinois 60623
Neighborhood: North Lawndale / Westside

Our Mission
The K-Town Canine Club (KCC) is more than just a fenced-in area for dogs; it is a community hub designed to revitalize the North Lawndale community. We are here to welcome all Chicago Canines—and their humans—to a safe, clean, and social environment.

North Lawndale has long been a community rich in history and resilience. By activating the space at 1400 South Komensky, we aim to transform an underutilized plot of land into a vibrant, safe, and joyous destination. We believe that dog parks are not just amenities; they are catalysts for neighborhood engagement, public safety, and community pride.

Our Vision
To create a premier, membership-based off-leash experience where the canines of Chicago can run free, socialize, and exercise in a structured, secure environment. We strive to lower barriers to entry for pet ownership in the Westside by providing a safe haven for dogs to release energy while fostering a community of responsible pet owners.

Why K-Town?
The "K-Town" area (spanning from Kilbourn to Kostner) is known for its beautiful boulevards and historic architecture. KCC aims to honor that legacy by bringing a modern, high-quality recreational facility to the neighborhood. We are building a space where the sounds of happy dogs replace the stresses of city life, and where neighbors become friends.

Membership Structure & Session Details

Membership & Operations

At K-TOWN CANINE CLUB (KCC), we prioritize safety and space. To ensure every dog has enough room to play safely without overcrowding, we operate on a limited capacity model. Each session is capped at 20 dogs. This allows our staff to monitor behavior effectively and ensures a stress-free environment for shy or high-energy dogs.

Session Times & Schedule

We offer three distinct sessions daily to accommodate various schedules and energy levels:

EVENING DOG . 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM20 DogsAfter-work wind-down; social butterflies.

(Note: Hours are subject to seasonal adjustments for daylight savings and weather extremes.)

Pricing Structure

To maintain the highest standards of cleanliness and safety, we operate on a pay-per-session model.

  • Rate: $20 per Doggie, per Session
  • Why $20 This fee covers:
    • Staffing: Certified handlers on-site to monitor play and enforce rules.
    • Sanitation: Professional-grade waste removal and turf sanitization between sessions.
    • Maintenance: Continuous upkeep of fencing, water stations, and agility equipment.
    • Safety: Immediate access to first aid supplies and emergency protocols.

Rules & Safety Protocols

K-TOWN CANINE CLUB (KCC) RULES

The safety of your canine family member is our highest priority. KCC operates under a strict code of conduct to ensure a positive experience for every visitor.

The Human Element: "Get off your Phone!"

  • Rule: Owners must remain actively engaged with their dogs at all times.
  • Rationale: This is a social experience, not a drop-off service. We enforce a strict "no distracted walking" policy. While inside the gates, phones are for taking photos of your dog only. Texting, scrolling social media, or extended phone calls are prohibited. An engaged owner prevents fights before they start

Health & Safety: Vaccinations

  • Requirement: All dogs must have Proof of Vaccinations prior to entry.
  • Required Shots:
    • Rabies
    • Distemper (DHPP)
    • Bordetella (Kennel Cough)
  • Age Restriction: All dogs must be at least 4 months old to ensure full vaccination immunity.

Behavior: Zero Tolerance for Aggression

  • The Rule: No aggressive dogs.
  • The Evaluation: All dogs must be evaluated by KCC staff. This is not a judgment on the dog’s character but a safety measure. We look for:
    • Healthy play bowing.
    • Ability to disengage from a scuffle when called.
    • Confidence around strangers.
  • Exclusions: Dogs that exhibit true aggression (biting with intent to harm, pinning with rigidity) will not be admitted. We reserve the right to revoke membership without refund for any dog deemed a safety risk.

Equipment: The Leather Collar Requirement

  • Requirement: All dogs must wear a Leather Collar.
  • Why Leather? Traditional chain collars, prong collars, and plastic-buckled nylon collars can get caught on other dogs’ teeth or jaws during play, leading to severe dental or jaw injuries. Leather collars are durable yet safe; they are designed to break away under extreme pressure or can be cut easily in an emergency. Harnesses are also permitted if they fit snugly without loose straps.

General Etiquette

  • Leash Protocol: Dogs must be leashed before entering and after exiting the double-gate airlock system.
  • Children: Children under 12 are not permitted inside the enclosure. Teenagers must be accompanied by an adult. (This is a dog park; excited dogs can easily knock over small children).
  • Females in Heat: No females in heat are permitted on the premises.
  • Waste: Owners must clean up after their dogs immediately. We provide bags and receptacles.

Community Impact & Call to Action

Building a Safer North Lawndale Through the K-TOWN CANINE CLUB

Building a Safer North Lawndale Through the K-TOWN CANINE CLUB

The "Eyes on the Street" Concept

Activating 1400 South Komensky with consistent foot traffic from 6:00 AM to 5:00 PM daily introduces a natural surveillance system to the area. Dog parks are proven to reduce crime in urban neighborhoods by increasing the number of responsible residents occupying public spaces.

By bringing the K-TOWN CANINE CLUB to this location, we are:

  • Cleaning the Lot: Transforming a vacant or under-maintained space into a manicured, fenced park.
  • Economic Boost: Drawing visitors to the area who may then patronize local businesses.
  • Social Cohesion: Creating a neutral, friendly ground for neighbors from different backgrounds to connect over their shared love of dogs.

Get Involved: How to Support KCC

We are currently in the development phase and looking for partners to help us break ground.
